Railroad-crossing closure begins this week on Lackawanna Avenue in Denville
Safety study will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing safety project that will require the closure and detour of Lackawanna Avenue in Denville, Morris County.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, until 7p.m. Thursday, October 5, the two-way traffic on Lackawanna Avenue is scheduled to be closed at the railroad crossing with Fox Hill Road for a traffic pattern study. The following detours will remain in place:
Lackawanna Avenue eastbound Detour:
- Motorists traveling eastbound on Lackawanna Avenue will be directed south to Station Road
- Make a left on to Route 53/East Main Street
- Continue to Fox Hill Road/Lackawanna Avenue
Fox Hill Road/Lackawanna Avenue westbound Detour:
- Motorists traveling westbound on Fox Hill Road/Lackawanna Avenue will be directed south on Route 53/East Main Street
- Make a right onto Station Road
- Follow to Lackawanna Avenue/Parks Road
The detour will be coordinated with the local police.
In order to provide safer railroad crossings in Denville, the existing crossings will be temporarily closed in order to study traffic patterns associated with a possible permanent closure. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
