BIG Blueways Guide

In 2005 the States of Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia and New Jersey signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to more effectively achieve the goals of the National Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (NBIG). Communication amongst states and local coastal communities will help to facilitate Program implementation and increase the state's ability to promote private/public partnerships and entrepreneurial opportunities. The MOU formalized the commitment amongst the states and served to advance Program administration and enable the transient boater to enjoy each of the states transient boating facilities, waterways, living resources and history.

To further this effort, the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Office of Maritime Resources (NJDOT/OMR) led the development of an online, interactive map featuring and highlighting NBIG award recipients. The mapping effort, known as the BIG Blueways Guide, contributes to NJDOT/OMR leadership in water transportation and reputation for providing upgraded transient service to boaters enjoying the Jersey, as well as the entire Atlantic, coast.
