Shrink Wrap "Plus" Recycling Program
This new initiative is funded by I BOAT NJ and aimed at increasing the amount of shrink wrap and other non-biodegradable boating-related waste material that are recycled. About 500 tons of shrink wrap material is used each year in New Jersey to cover boats for storage during the winter months. Only about half of that amount is recycled. In addition, the "Plus" of the program will target recycling other materials used widely in the marine industry, including zinc and aluminum anodes and the plastic drums used for storing antifreeze. Boaters should consider sharing this recycling information with marinas and marine businesses they use. For more information, contact the New Jersey Sea Grant Extension Program Manager.
