Training

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Program Management Office (PMO) recognizes that efficient and timely employee training is essential to the deployment and adoption of project management processes and improvements in Capital Project Management.

The mission of the PMO Training Manager and staff is to develop, coordinate and implement training that supports all PMO process improvements. The PMO Training Manager should ensure that current project methodology and best practices in project management are reinforced in employee training programs.

Coordinating with the NJDOT Division of Employee Support, the Human Resources Development Institute (HRDI) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) course offerings as well as outside vendors, the PMO Training Manager will introduce appropriate courses and classes that support project management skills development for NJDOT employees.

Various training methods, based on the needs of the participants, are classroom-facilitated training, online web casts, Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) training, and audio-visual training for larger classes.

The PMO will follow up the training:
  • using electronic participant surveys to determine effectiveness and usefulness of the course.
  • documenting and tracking course attendance.
  • working to develop more valuable metrics in future process improvements efforts using a ratio of the training impact to actual process improvement.
