The construction on this project has been completed.

Q.

Why is the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) doing this work?
A. The deteriorated concrete pavement and bridge decks in this section of I-287 need rehabilitation. The bridge decks that carry I-287 over Durham Avenue and I-287 over Route 1 need complete replacement.

Who is doing this work?
A.

NJDOT awarded the contract for this work in June 2007 to Tarheel Enterprises of Morgan, NJ.

   

Q.

How much will it cost?
A. The Transportation Trust Fund will fund the estimated cost of $40 million.
   

Q.

How long will it take to complete?
A.

The construction is scheduled from August 2007 through December 2009 and is divided into stages to reflect the needs of the community and the traffic flow.

   

Q.

Where can travelers obtain information?
A.

Variable message signs on I-287, Route 1, the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike and the Web sites: NJcommuter.com, Trips123 and Keep Middlesex Moving will provide travel information.

   

Q.

Is the community involved?
A.

Yes. In addition to working with municipal and county officials, residents, local emergency responders, such as police and fire personnel and Keep Middlesex Moving on a regular basis, NJDOT held local officials’ briefings and public information sessions with residents and local officials to answer questions and address concerns.

The Department will communicate with these affected parties about the construction throughout the project.
