March 24, 2006 A ram hoe is used to demolish the concrete deck on the 14th Street Viaduct. The deck must be removed so that construction workers and engineers can assess the conditions of the steel beams beneath the structure.

April 6, 2006 This is a view of the closed lanes and bridge wall that will be rehabilitated. Motorists travel along side the work area throughout the day. The movable barrier (yellow bottoms) is moved twice daily to accommodate traffic flow. In this afternoon photo, motorists traveling on the 14th Street Viaduct have two open lanes of traffic while motorists on the 12th Street Viaduct have one lane open.

April 7, 2006 Welders cut steel beams on the 14th Street Viaduct deck as a crane prepares to remove the construction material away from the site.

April 10, 2006 A construction worker cleans exposed beams in preparation for the widening of the 14th Street Viaduct.

April 11, 2006 Rebar is fitted onto the pier cap of a column built beneath the 14th Street Viaduct. Rebar is construction material often used to reinforce structures.
