Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 48
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 48 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Salem County:
i. In the Borough of Penns Grove:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 25 MPH between Route US 130 (Main Street) and South Torton Street (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.14); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between South Torton Street and the Carneys Point Township - Penns Grove Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 0.14 to 0.27); thence
ii. In the Township of Carneys Point:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Penns Grove Borough - Carneys Point Township corporate line and Cedarwood Avenue (approximate mileposts 0.27 to 0.36); thence
(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between Cedarwood Avenue and a point 625 feet west of East End Avenue, except for 30 MPH when passing through the Penns Grove High School zone, (mileposts 0.63 to 0.81) during recess when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 0.36 to 0.84); thence
(C) Zone 3: 50 MPH between a point 625 feet west of East End Avenue and Route US 40 (end of route) (approximate mileposts 0.84 to 4.26).
