Project description:
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will improve access to Cook Campus at Rutgers University in North Brunswick by replacing a deficient bridge, road improvements and additional signals.

The Route 1 North Brunswick project's role in the Liberty Corridor is that it improves access to Rutgers University/Cook College, the High Technology Center, and several other growing high technology and research firms, such as Bristol Meyers Squibb.

Related to economic development, the Route 1 North Brunswick project improves opportunities for development of vacant parcels adjacent to the New Jersey Technology Center and on the east side of Route 1, including a 25 acre parcel owned by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.

An innovative aspect of the Route 1 North Brunswick project is that it improves access to a leading academic research institution and a growing hub of high technology and research firms.

Total project cost:
$37.254 million

Funding partnerships:
By providing $10 million in funding, the Liberty Corridor will accelerate construction of this project by one full year. Designation as a SAFETEA-LU High Priority Project and National Highway System funding provides the remaining $27.254 million.
