NEW JERSEY OFFICE
OF TRAVEL & TOURISM ANNOUNCES THIRTY-FOUR COOPERATIVE MARKETING GRANTS
AWARDED TO EXPAND TOURISM PROMOTIONS
Trenton, N.J. (January 3, 2003)—Thirty-four
organizations have been awarded Tourism Cooperative Marketing Grants totaling
$200,400 for 2003, according to Tourism Executive Director Nancy J. Byrne.
The Cooperative Marketing Program is a partnership between
the New Jersey Commerce Commission's Office of Travel & Tourism and
the state's travel attractions, special event planners and other tourism
services. The goal of the program is to utilize state funds to leverage
non-state funds in the promotion of specific tourism opportunities in New
Jersey to key out-of-state markets.
"Tourism is a $31 billion industry that supports
836,000 jobs across New Jersey and produces $17.7 billion in wages,"
said Byrne. "The Cooperative Marketing Program provides an effective
way to promote the variety of attractions we have here in the Garden State."
Byrne added that tourism promotion is a valuable tool
for increasing visitation throughout the Garden State. "Efforts such
as the Cooperative Marketing Grant Program complement our initiatives to
help the state's tourism industry reach new, unprecedented heights."

"America the beautiful-only smaller," New
Jersey encompasses less than 9,000 square miles, but it's surprisingly
diverse, combining the best of metropolitan sophistication with rural farmlands,
rivers and mountains - all accessible within a few hours. Ocean beaches
stretch 127 miles, from Cape May Point to Sandy Hook. Vast expanses of
forever-green acres are exemplified in the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap
National Recreation Area and 1.1-million-acre Pine Barrens Reserve. There
are mountains for skiing and climbing; trails for hiking, towns for shopping
and culture. While super highways, express buses, trains and ferries provide
quick and direct access into New York City and Philadelphia, back roads
wind through historic hamlets, farmlands and pristine forests. Along the
way are botanic gardens, historic architecture, museums, sporting events,
gaming casinos and kids' action parks. New Jersey is a vacation destination
for the best days of your life!
