AMAZING AVIATORS
FLY NEW JERSEY SKIES
AT 31st ANNUAL SUSSEX AIRSHOW
Performers Pay Tribute to
the First 100 years of Flying
Friday, August 22 through Sunday, August 24
Sussex, N.J. (August 18, 2003)—Celebrate
100 years of flying right here in New Jersey -- yes, that’s right
New Jersey -- when the 31st Annual Sussex Air Show takes off on Friday,
August 22 through Sunday, August 24 at the Sussex Airport in Sussex. The
festival features approximately 20 aviators who will perform breath-taking
aerobatics, while also commemorating the special moment, 100 years ago,
when The Wright Brothers first defied gravity on December 17, 1903, in
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
During this three-day flying extravaganza, the air show
will highlight the Gazelle, a one-of-a-kind aerobatic helicopter, flown
by Chris Bateman who trained with the British Military show teams. This
flying act is the only one like it in the United States.
In addition, The Misty Blues, the famous all-female
parachute team, will perform. Charles Fletcher, inventor of the Hovercraft,
will also demonstrate his first model.
“Home of the nation’s first municipal airport
in Atlantic City, New Jersey is proud to share its rich aviation history
with the nation as we commemorate 100 years of flying,” said Nancy
Byrne, executive director of New Jersey Commerce’s Office of Travel
& Tourism. “This is a weekend event to be enjoyed by visitors
of all ages young and old.”
To celebrate 100 years of flying, the air show will
also feature an aviation history parade that includes some of the early
aircrafts from the Golden Age of aviation up until the present day. Some
of the planes expected to fly by are the Waco Cabins, Stagger wing Beechcraft,
Fairchild’s, Cabins, the Stinson SR5 and many other open Bi-Planes
of all ages.
The always popular War bird Parade is expected to be
larger this year and more military fly-bys are promised. Adult admission
tickets at the gate are $20, $10 for children ages 7 to 12 and free for
children 6 years and under. On Friday only, senior citizens will pay $10
for a half price ticket. Tickets are available online at reduced advance
ticket prices by visiting www.SussexAirportInc.com or by calling 973-875-0783.
