REVISIT THE ‘GOOD OLD DAYS’ WHEN CAPE MAY
WAS QUEEN OF SEASHORE RESORTS

Trenton, N.J. (September 24, 2003)—For ten days in October, fans of the Victorian era can relive that period when trains and steamboats introduced American vacationers to Cape May and made it America’s first seashore resort. The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts’ Victorian Week will celebrate its 31st anniversary, October 10-19, 2003, with a roster of activities that includes 20 historic homes open to tour, vintage dancing, mystery dinners, Victorian fashion shows, lectures, brass band concerts and much more.

“So much of New Jersey’s development is tied to the building of industry and accumulation of private wealth during the Victorian period that a visit to Cape May during this festival opens a historic window for visitors,” says Nancy Byrne, executive director, New Jersey Office of Travel & Tourism. “We’re very proud that Victorian Week in Cape May has been named a ‘top 100 event in North America’ by the American Bus Association.”

Being introduced for this year’s celebration are three exciting weekend Historic House Tour passes (The Historic Sampler Pass includes entry into the Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May’s only historic home museum, and five historic houses; the Victorian Pass includes the Emlen Physick Estate and ten historic houses and the Cape May Pass includes everything on the Victorian Pass plus admission to the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May Point State Park.) All passes include shuttle service by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts’ trolley, Wheaton Village Glassblowers demonstrations on the lawn of the Emlen Physick Estate, admission to the Fight of the Century exhibit at the Carriage House Gallery and more. Specific information may be obtained from the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, phone 609-884-5404 or 800-275-4278 or through the website at www.capemaymac.org/
