RACE IN NEW JERSEY
FOR $4.1 MILLION
Meadowlands Racetrack hosts special
fall stakes meet featuring Breeders Crown Events
East Rutherford, N.J. (November 25, 2003)—Equine
enthusiasts will take their post positions at the Breeders Crown series
culminating at The Meadowlands Racetrack in a special stakes meet Saturday,
November 29. For the first time, the racetrack will host eight freshmen
and sophomore events worth in excess of $4.1 million.
The Breeders Crown series, instituted by the Hambletonian
Society, was conceived as the definitive championship forum in the sport
of harness racing. Over a decade later, the program has exceeded that goal.
After 19 editions and 218 events, a Breeders Crown title has become one
of the most coveted honors in harness racing.
"The crown series will provide some of the most
memorable and conclusive racing of the season," said Nancy Byrne,
executive director for New Jersey Commerce's Office of Travel and Tourism.
"New Jersey, with its rich equine history, is proud to host such a
prestigious event."
The Meadowlands is no stranger to the Hambletonian events.
The East Rutherford racetrack hosted the Hambletonian Festival in August,
the richest trotting event in the world where $1.2 million was at stake.
Breeders' Crown was instituted in 1984 with the objective
of stimulating public awareness of racing and uniting the sport's stars
in a finale to the racing season, settling the year-end championships on
the track. More information on the 2003 Breeders Crown can be obtained
