July 4th Festivities Around the Garden State

Trenton, N.J. (June 21, 2004)—From Tall Ships on the Camden Waterfront to the crackle and kaboom of fireworks along the Jersey Shore, July 4th celebrations are a blast in the Garden State.

“New Jersey is known as the Crossroads of the American Revolution,” said Nancy Byrne, executive director of the NJ Office of Travel & Tourism. “What better way to observe our role in history than by enjoying festivities that commemorate the quest for freedom and independence.”

Here's a brief roundup of things to do.

Down the Shore:

June 30-July 4: Tall Ships Festival, Camden/Philadelphia Waterfront. Featuring 12-14 ships and a series of related activities on both sides of the River. July 4: Bridgewater, Fourth of July at Middlebrook Encampment. Site of two encampments of Washington’s Continental Army. Includes changing of the 13-star flag and historical address. For more information contact 732-356-2692.

July 4: Bridgewater, Fourth of July Family Festival at North Branch Park. The Elvis Show and the Soul Survivors, children’s entertainment, historical reenactments, and fireworks. July 4: New Brunswick, Annual Independence Day Celebration. Festivities take place in Boyd Park with a fireworks display on the banks of the Old Raritan. The Rutgers Percussion Ensemble will perform from 7:30 pm-9:00 pm. For more information, contact 732- 745-5125.
