GOVERNOR’S CONFERENCE ON TOURISM
SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 28 to 30 IN ATLANTIC CITY

Trenton—New Jersey's natural, historic and scenic wonders will come alive at the 2007 Governor's Conference on Tourism, sponsored by the New Jersey Office of Travel & Tourism and the New Jersey Travel & Industry Association, March 28 - 30 at the Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.

Tourism is a cornerstone industry for New Jersey, generating $36.3 billion in consumer spending and more than $4 billion in state and local tax revenue in 2005. The annual Governor's Conference affords a tremendous opportunity to gather the tourism industry to focus on strategies that will grow the state's third largest industry and attract more visitors to our state.

"New Jersey’s tourism family has forged strategic partnerships that have strengthened our tourism industry, year after year,” said Nancy J. Byrne, Executive Director of the New Jersey Office of Travel & Tourism. “These vital partnerships have helped to ensure the success of this Conference, which celebrates our industry, reflects on the past year and provides the direction for our future.”

The 2007 Governor's Conference will include forums and panel discussions focusing on many diverse topics. Keynote speaker for the March 28th General Session is Polly LaBarre, business journalist, author & former editor of Fast Company Magazine. LaBarre will take the audience on a vivid journey into the world of the new generation of leaders whose unique approaches to strategy, service and organization are redefining business. Governor Corzine is the invited speaker for the Governor’s Award Luncheon on Thursday, March 29.

After the luncheon, Bill Gehrman, Vice President of Strategic Services for the Altus Group, will deliver a presentation entitled, “Product Development - Connecting the Dots to Attract Visitors.” Mr. Gehrman has traveled throughout New Jersey for the past six months to inventory and analyze tourism products for the Office of Travel and Tourism. In this session, Mr. Gehrman will share some of his findings and discuss the "dots" that need to be connected in order to create a successful tourism product, the difference between attractors and attractions, and the best way to market a product to potential visitors.
