Public awareness is a core function of the Council. The Council is uniquely positioned to raise awareness and educate the legislature and the public about alcoholism and drug abuse. The Council's public awareness / education activities include the use of well-known communication strategies including letters to the editor, opinion pieces and press releases, as well as emerging social media marketing such as maintaining an active presence on Facebook.
GCADA works with the Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Program, as well as other stakeholders and community partners to develop and disseminate public awareness campaigns to reduce the stigma associated with alcoholism and drug abuse. The Council also develops initiatives, events, and training that bring together drug coalition members, stakeholders, treatment and recovery professionals, and others, to address New Jersey's number one public health concern, alcoholism and drug abuse.
