Public awareness is a core function of the Council.  The Council is uniquely positioned to raise awareness and educate the legislature and the public about alcoholism and drug abuse.  The Council's public awareness / education activities include the use of well-known communication strategies including letters to the editor, opinion pieces and press releases, as well as emerging social media marketing such as maintaining an active presence on Facebook.

Public awareness and community relations staff develop public awareness campaigns to reduce the stigma associated with alcoholism and drug abuse as well as to highlight the Alliance to Prevent to Alcoholism and Drug Abuse program. The Council also hosts an annual Summit that attracts more than 800 attendees from across New Jersey. Anti-drug coalition members, stakeholders, treatment and recovery professionals and others, come together to address New Jersey's number one public health concern, alcoholism and drug abuse.
