Pensions Counselors Available by Appointment.
When issues related to your benefits arise that warrant the time and attention of a pension counselor, you can schedule an appointment at the Division of Pensions and Benefits, Office of Client Services (50 West State Street, First Floor, Trenton, NJ). Appointments are available for both active and retired members of the various State-administered retirement systems (and beneficiaries for death claims).
Appointments are made online at the Division’s home page, click on “Counseling Appointments” — or click the "Appointment Scheduling System" link above. In the scheduling system, select the type of visit you need, the appointment date, and an appointment time from the available options. Appointments are required for detailed assistance with the following:
- Purchase of Service Credit
- Pre-Retirement Counseling
- Retirement Counseling and Application
- Disability Retirement Counseling and Application
- Death Claim Processing
- Retired Health Benefit Issues
- Retiree Return to Public Employment Counseling
- Active or Retired Pension Account Discrepancies
Basic membership information is required prior to submitting the appointment request so that the counselor can be better prepared for your visit. When the registration is complete, you will receive confirmation of your scheduled appointment via e-mail.
- Appointments are not needed for the drop-off of completed forms and similar actions that do not require member account access or a counselor’s assistance.
- However, if visiting for counseling, be sure to schedule an appointment as the availability for walk-in counseling is limited and we cannot guarantee that you will be seen without an appointment.
