Long Term Care Insurance Plan

LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE PLAN CLOSED TO NEW MEMBERS

The Prudential Insurance Company of America (Prudential) announced that it will discontinue sales of group long-term care insurance products — including through the State of New Jersey Long Term Care Plan.

  • Effective August 1, 2012, new local government or local education employers can no longer adopt the resolution to provide this coverage.

  • Prudential will continue to accept LTC enrollment forms from employees of local government and local education employers who adopted the LTC resolution prior to August 1, 2012 and State agencies as long as the enrollment form is received by June 30, 2013. This includes retirees of these entities.

  • Terms and conditions of coverage provided under existing long-term care insurance policies will not change. This coverage is guaranteed renewable: as long as premiums are paid on time and benefits are not exhausted, coverage will remain in place — although premiums may change on a class basis, subject to regulatory review.

Questions related to this announcement can be directed to Prudential’s Long-Term Care Customer Service Center at 1-888-477-8543, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Eastern time.

ABOUT THE LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE PLAN

Participation in the Long Term Care Insurance Plan is available to individuals — and eligible family members — enrolled prior to August 1, 2012, who are employed by the State, a state college or university; or a New Jersey Local Governmental or Educational entity provided that it adopted a resolution to offer the plan; and individuals enrolled prior to August 1, 2012, who were employed by these State and Local employers at the time of their retirement.

The Long Term Care Insurance Plan is administered for the State of New Jersey by the Prudential Insurance Company of America.
