You may change your business'
tax or employer registration by filing Form REG-C-L entitled Request
for Change of Registration Information. This form enables you to alter
your filing status, report a new business mailing address, or change
your tax or employer eligibility. In addition, a federal identification
number may be reported for the business to replace its temporary identification
number.
You may file this information
online
or by submitting a paper
document, which may be downloaded for use.
Form REG-C-L is not to
be used for:
- the initial registration
for tax or employer purposes or to register a new location for
an existing business. A Business Registration Application, Form
NJ-REG is to be filed for these situations.
- changes in ownership.
If a business has been sold or is changing its entity type (i.e.
from proprietorship to partnership or the business is incorporating),
a new business has then been formed and Form
NJ-REG must be completed.
- changes in entity formation.
All amendments
to the articles of incorporation/formation of a business entity
including name changes are to be reported on Form REG-C-EA Business
Entity Amendment Filing.
NOTE:
Beginning in 2006, New Jersey is planning to require new businesses
to file and pay selected taxes and reports in a paperless format. Options
and instructions for electronic filing and payment will be provided
for the specific tax or report. Changes to your registration will also
become paperless and must be submitted using the online REG-C application.
In addition, any business adding a new eligibility for one of the selected
taxes or reports will also be subject to submit that filing electronically.
