Homeowners: File Your 2007 Homestead Rebate Application
Deadline for filing homestead rebate applications is August 15, 2008.
Applications
Beginning July 3, those homeowners who were not mailed applications in May will begin to receive their application packets. This second wave of applications will be sent out over a two-week period (view Mailing Schedule). The filing deadline is August 15, 2008. If you have not received your application by July 23, call the Homestead Rebate Hotline at 1-888-238-1233 for assistance. Please note that applications are not being sent to homeowners who were identified by the Division of Taxation as having New Jersey gross income for 2007 that exceeded the income limit of $150,000, as they are not eligible for 2007 (see below).
Homestead rebate applications were mailed in May to homeowners who were 65 years of age or older or disabled on the last day of the 2007 tax year. The original filing deadline of June 2 was extended to August 15, 2008.

How to File
Homeowners have until August 15, 2008, to file their applications by phone (1-877-658-2972) or online. Homeowners who need to file a paper application can request one through either of the automated filing systems after entering their ID and PIN. The automated phone and Internet filing systems are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Any eligible homeowner who has not received their application packet by July 23 should call the Homestead Rebate Hotline at 1-888-238-1233 for assistance. Please note that applications are not being sent to homeowners who were identified by the Division of Taxation as having New Jersey gross income for 2007 that exceeded the income limit of $150,000, as they are not eligible for 2007 (see above).
NOTE: Homeowners do NOT file their homestead rebate applications with the New Jersey income tax return. Only tenants use Form TR-1040 in the resident income tax return packet and only tenants file their homestead rebate applications electronically at the same time they file their New Jersey tax returns.
Rebate Amount
The amount of the rebate is based on an applicant’s income, property taxes, and whether the applicant was age 65 or older or eligible to claim an exemption as blind or disabled for tax year 2007. The State Budget mandates that the 2007 rebate will be calculated using 2006 property taxes.
The State Budget limits 2007 rebate amounts for homeowners.
