- Special consideration
was given to Interchange One because of its location as a gateway
into New Jersey. A new state-of-the-art design was selected to
give the plaza a sense of prestige as motorists entered the State.
- More than
45,000 vehicles pass through Interchange One every day. In 2003,
16,646,683 vehicles used Interchange One.
-
The
new Interchange One Toll Plaza will provide 23 lanes including
four with Express E-ZPass to move more traffic safely and quickly.
The previous Interchange One Plaza only provided 15 toll lanes.
- The Express
E-ZPass lanes in use at Interchange One will allow up to 2,200
cars per hour per lane to pass through.
- The toll
plaza design is a mainline barrier plaza using a split-plaza configuration
with the plaza utility building separating the 16 exit and 7 entry
toll lanes.
- The median
surrounding the utility building effectively provides a higher
degree of safety by maintaining a continuous physical separation
between opposing directions of traffic.
