TRAFFIC PERMIT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

A Traffic Permit must be issued by the Turnpike Authority prior to any activity being performed by third parties (non-Turnpike employees) within the Turnpike's right-of-way. Occupation of the Turnpike's right-of-way for any purpose other than travel is not authorized unless a Traffic Permit has been issued.

The insurance coverage identified in the Traffic Permit Application is the minimum amount of insurance required by the Authority. Depending upon the circumstances and/or conditions of work, the Authority's Law Department/Insurance Section reserves the right to modify the insurance requirements for a particular Traffic Permit.

The Application must be filled out in its entirety, including the indemnification page, and mailed to the Authority (a facsimile is acceptable to start the review process) as follows:

The Traffic Permit Application should be accompanied with any associated plans, maps, details, etc. that further identify the proposed work.

Return Traffic Permit Application to the Supervising Engineer/Planning for the following activities:

  • Construction contract activities
  • License to Cross construction
  • Utility Order construction
  • Right-of-way activity
  • Survey work

Return Traffic Permit Application to the Assistant Traffic Coordinator, Operations Department for any of the following activities:

  • Photography or video of the roadway
  • Traffic counts

Upon receipt of the completed Traffic Permit Application and Certificate(s) of Insurance, the Authority will proceed with the review of the work activity and insurance. Once approval is received, the Operations Department will issue the Traffic Permit; a minimum of one week for processing traffic permit applications should be anticipated.

A copy of the Traffic Permit with respective insurance must be in the possession of the applicant at all times when the applicant is occupying Turnpike Authority property.

If an extension beyond the Traffic Permit expiration date is required, it is the applicant's responsibility to obtain the appropriate insurance certificates and contact the appropriate department to request the extension. A minimum of one week for processing Traffic Permit extension requests should be anticipated.
