Tropical
Plants, Orchids, Fruits, Livestock and More... All at One
Location
The agricultural education session providers at Stony Hill
Gardens have very diverse educations and experiences to share
with students. The providers have backgrounds in ornamental
horticulture, animal husbandry, floral design, and mycology
(mushrooms), and they also participate in the Master Gardener
program. Such a diverse background allows Stony Hill's educational
sessions to be modified to meet the needs of both the teachers
and the students. Sessions are geared toward the students'
age group, and they provide the opportunity to get an inside,
behind-the-scenes look into Stony Hill's 18,000 square foot
greenhouse and farm production, set on 40 acres in historic
Chester, New Jersey. Stony Hill has the area's largest selection
of orchids, and students can learn about the production of
these exotic plants. Are your students interested in learning
about the tropical plants of the Rainforest, how to attract
butterflies and beneficial insects, herb production, floral
design or mushroom identification? Or would your students
be interested in a hayride around the farm to learn production
practices for pumpkins and apples, or a visit to meet the
farm livestock? How would your students like to test their
skills in the Wild West Adventure corn maze and uncover clues
to the numerous questions posed throughout the course? Stony
Hill is the place where students can get hands-on experience
about all these subjects, plus more.
