The New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA) is an ex-officio member of the state Clean Water Council, who advises the DEP Commissioner on water quality issues. NJDA staff monitors the state’s water quality programs and evaluates the impact on the agriculture industry. The NJDA works in partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Soil Conservation Districts to provide technical and financial assistance for the installation of conservation practices including cover cropping, contouring and strip cropping, diversions, terracing, vegetative filter strips, animal waste storage and composting, nutrient management planning, integrated pest management and irrigation tailwater recovery systems.
