According to the USDA, “sightings of the Asian Giant Hornet have been confirmed only in Washington state.” Furthermore, the USDA says there is “no evidence that Asian Giant Hornet populations are anywhere else in the United States.”

The USDA also has said, “although there are a number of unconfirmed Asian Giant Hornet sightings from the public, these unconfirmed sightings may be look-alike hornet species that are known to occur in the United States.”

A common look-alike hornet in New Jersey is the European hornet, which has been in the United States since the 1800s.
