DCA Seeks Nominations for 2009 Connie Woodruff and Wynona M. Lipman Awards

Outstanding Women & Community Organizations Sought For Recognition

TRENTON – To celebrate Women’s History Month in March 2009, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ Division on Women and the New Jersey Advisory Commission on the Status of Women will be presenting awards named in honor of the late Connie Woodruff and Senator Wynona M. Lipman.  These awards will once again recognize outstanding women and community organizations that have developed policies, services or programs that benefit the women of New Jersey.

Women’s History Month is an opportunity to acknowledge and honor the accomplishments of remarkable women and organizations that are enriching New Jersey’s future.  Individuals and organizations are invited to participate in the awards process by nominating a woman or an organization to receive this recognition.  An individual may nominate herself, another woman, her organization, or another community organization for the 2009 Wynona M. Lipman Awardsby following the awards packet instructions.  Nominations will be accepted in the following five categories:

  • Empowerment
  • Innovation
  • Leadership
  • Synergy
  • Visionary

The Connie Woodruff Award for Excellence will be selected from the submitted nominations.

An awards ceremony will take place in March 2009 during Women’s History Month. Selected nominees will be contacted with additional information regarding the event.

The Connie Woodruff Award is named in honor of the late Connie Woodruff, the first Chairperson of the New Jersey Advisory Commission on the Status of Women and past President of the National Association of Commissions on Women. The Wynona M. Lipman Award is named for the late Senator Wynona M. Lipman, the first African American woman elected to the New Jersey State Senate, and champion of women’s rights, minorities and children.
