The Ombudsman acts as the small business community’s representative in matters that affect it under the Clean Air Act. The Ombudsman is located within the New Jersey Department of State. Other responsibilities of the Ombudsman may include:
- Reviewing and providing comments and recommendations to EPA and state/local air pollution control authorities regarding the development and implementation of regulations that impact small businesses;
- Helping to disseminate information about upcoming air regulations, control requirements, and other pertinent matters to small businesses;
- Referring small businesses to the appropriate specialists in state government and elsewhere for help with particular needs (e.g. available control technologies and operating permit requirements); and
- Conducting studies to evaluate the effects of the Act on state and local economies and on small businesses in general.
