Recent News
Partnership to Plug In
On June 3, 2019, Governor Murphy announced the New Jersey Partnership to Plug-in, a first-of-its-kind, statewide partnership to build out the necessary infrastructure to support electric vehicles in New Jersey. The Partnership aligns state agency roles through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that requires the goals of the partnership be incorporated in the RGGI Strategic Funding Plan, and directs the Agencies to use the RGGI funds, to extent authorized by law and regulation, to further the MOU goals.
Transportation and Climate Initiative
The Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) is a regional collaboration of 12 Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states and the District of Columbia that seeks to improve transportation, develop the clean energy economy and reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. The participating states are: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia.
DEP Mobile Source Programs
The Bureau of Mobile Sources protects public health and the environment by reducing air pollution from motor vehicles, engines, and the fuels used to operate them, and by encouraging travel choices that minimize emissions. We are also responsible for implementing statewide, comprehensive Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) emissions testing for motor vehicles. By reducing mobile source emissions, New Jersey’s communities are more liveable.
Transportation in the 2019 Energy Master Plan (EMP)
On January 27, 2020, Governor Murphy unveiled the state’s Energy Master Plan , which outlines key strategies to reach the Administration’s goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2050. The EMP comprehensively addresses New Jersey’s energy system, including electricity generation, transportation, and buildings, and their associated greenhouse gas emissions and related air pollutants. For the first time, the state’s EMP includes a robust set of strategies for reducing energy consumption and emissions from the transportation sector.
