Near Record Carp Caught

On Sunday, July 23, 2006 at 9:50am, Wielslaw Aelasko of Lakewood, NJ, caught a 39-inch long carp that had a girth of 30 inches. It was pulled from Oakford Lake, New Egypt (Ocean County) using 24-lb test Spiderwire line off a Shakespeare Axiom reel on a 7-foot rod.

Power Bait Corn bait dip lured the big carp to the hook. The fish weighed 43 lbs., 9 oz. - just 3 lbs. 7oz. shy of the current state record (taken in the South Branch of the Raritan River in 1995).

See the Freshwater Record Fish page to see what record you might want to pursue.
