The horseshoe crab eggs help the red knot especially because they arrive in such poor condition. After a nonstop flight from Brazil, they arrive at weights as low as 90 grams, down from weights as high as 225 grams when they leave Brazil. In just a few weeks they must rebuild their weights for the flight to the Arctic.
