We began our Arctic investigation trying to determine where Delaware Bay red knots breed. Oddly enough, no one knew. Each year from 1999 to 2001, we placed transmitters on birds and tracked them in the Arctic. We found enough to create the first map of breeding habitat of the red knot in the Arctic. We were also able to locate a field site to study birds on the ground.
