The Red Knot wintering population has declined by over 50% while godwit numbers have remained stable or increasing

Within two years the population had declined to 22,000 birds. The steep decline was not the result of changes in Bahia Lomas because the hudsonian godwit remained relatively stable in the same surveys. Godwits feed on the same prey and breed in the Arctic, but don’t stopover on the Delaware Bay
