Oxford School Excels at Archery Competition
The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife would like to congratulate the Oxford Central School for another great performance at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) national competition held in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 8 & 9. This year a record number of archers (over 5000) attended the two day competition. Oxford competed in the Middle School division and placed 9th out of 65 schools competing with only a few points separating them from the number one spot. An incredible statistic not reported reflects that if Oxford had been competing in the high school category they would have placed 20th out of the 84 schools. Oxford has become a perennial New Jersey powerhouse by achieving the highest score and winning the right to represent NJ in each of the last three national competitions. Some individual Oxford archers stood out above the others by posting the following scores and placements:
NASP is conducted in the Physical Education class for grades 4-12. Teacher training is provided free of charge and no archery experience is required. Once trained, schools can either purchase their archery equipment or take advantage of loaner equipment available in each county of New Jersey.
