Opening Day 2019 Trout Angler Survey Report |

The Bureau of Freshwater Fisheries gathers information about angler success, fishing preferences, interests, and attitudes through the use of surveys (in addition to the Fisheries Forums, trout stocking meeting and Fish Code comments). The Opening Day Trout Angler Survey is conducted on the opening day of trout season. The intent of this data collection is to provide the Division with information to better understand anglers, provide better service, and ultimately improve fishing throughout New Jersey.
This “On-Site Creel Survey” has two main objectives:
1) to record angler presence or turnout on specific waterbodies, and,
2) to determine angler success.
This survey has been conduced since 2004 on about 120 trout stocked locations throughout the state. Anglers on opening day have a good chance of having their voice heard and contribute in the management of New Jersey’s freshwater fisheries. The results of the 2019 survey are below:
