Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease has been confirmed in New Jersey

Updated: September 21, 2021

The Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD). EHD is not a threat to public health.

EHD is caused by a midge and those midges are killed by a hard frost. As NJ has had multiple in the past several weeks we expect that deer will no longer be impacted by this disease and we will see cases drop off.
