Scope of Eligibility: Open to employees in the Division of Fish and Wildlife, who meet the requirements below.
Description: Under the supervision of a Crew Supervisor or other supervisory official in the Division of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Environmental Protection, performs various duties involved in fish and game propagation, growth and health maintenance, resource inventories, fish and game distribution, user surveys, habitat management and performs routine maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds; does other related work as required.
Specific to the Position: Participates in various fisheries field surveys, individually or as a crew member, including but not limited to preparing gear and equipment, operating vehicles and vessels, deploying/retrieving sampling gear, processing the catch and biological samples, recording data, data entry and QA/QC, and assisting with report preparation; routine maintenance of vehicle, vessels and sampling gear; routine maintenance of buildings and grounds, including the safe operation of tools and equipment; providing technical support to the Marine Fisheries Council. Candidate must possess or be able to obtain a USCG Safe Vessel Certification.
Preferred Skill Set: Experience with common marine finfish/shellfish sampling gear; familiarity with operating and maintaining vehicles and vessels; towing trailers or deploying/retrieving sampling gear; familiarity with tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance and upkeep of facility buildings and grounds; knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance.
Requirements
Experience: One (1) year of experience in routine wildlife or fisheries management activities including habitat developments, maintenance, propagation and/or conservation. SPECIAL NOTE: Appointee may be required to wear a half-face respirator and complete an annual training course in respiratory protection.
License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. Appointees may be required to obtain a valid New Jersey boat operator's license.
Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
