Abstract:

Included are those sites within New Jersey where chromate contamination of soil or ground water has been identified; This list of chromate waste sites include sites where remediation is either currently under way, required but not yet initiated or has been completed. The data included here dates from 1995. It is important to note that since some of the cases included may have been fully remediated and they should no longer be listed; however information confirming completion of the remediation has not reached this office. Additionally more chromate waste sites may yet be identified and accordingly are not included here. For further information contact NJDEP's Site Remediation Programs (SRP) lead program, which are identified with each site listed in this data base. Contact information for SRPs lead program can acquired at www.state.nj.us/dep/srp.

1995 through 2001 kcsl was oringally listing of these sites. Adopted orignal locational information from kcsl. SRP is currently verifying and correcting locational information for chromate waste sites.

Process_Step:

Process_Description:

The information is obtained from data submissions produced by the various remedial programs within NJDEP using information supplied by the party responsible for the site. Geographic information as to the location of sites and extent of the chromate sites were supplied by responsible parties in the form of addresses and maps showing location of site. This information is compared with a GIS, Tiger based road coverage and both 1991 and 1995 and 2002 digital ortho-photoquads. The confidence as to the accuracy tends to be high but is limited to the quality of the maps provided by the responsible parties. The source of the digital ortho-photoquads is 1:12,000 National Air Photography Program (NAPP) color infrared photography. Responsible parties whose sites contain a chromate site include, in their reports, information describing the characteristics of that chromate site. The spatial extent of the chromate site is digitized heads-up through comparison of the responsible party maps with TIGER roads coverages and both 1991, 1995 and 2002 digital ortho-photoquads with case manager input.
