Abstract:
New Jersey Ground-Water Recharge is an estimation of ground-water recharge for New Jersey. Ground-water recharge is estimated using the NJGS methodology from NJ Geological Survey Report GSR-32 "A Method for Evaluation of Ground-Water-Recharge Areas in New Jersey. Land-use/land-cover, soil and municipality-based climatic data were combined and used to produce an estimate of ground-water recharge in inches/year. Recharge was then ranked by volume (billions of gallons/year) using natural breaks in the percentage of total volume.
Purpose:
To provide maps and digital data to NJGS clients and as required by N.J.S.A. 58:11A, 12-16 et seq.
Supplemental_Information:
The ground-water recharge model is limited to parcels of 5 acres or greater. Largest reliable data resolution is 1:24,000.

Attributes contain recharge in inches/year rounded to 1/100th of an inch (GWR) and nearest inch (INCH) as well as indication of relative ranks (RANK) for three areas. Ranks also indicate hydric soils, wetlands and open water, and areas were recharge was not calculated due to lack of data. Locational data indicate where each polygon is in terms of Watershed Management Area and Region, municipality, and county. Explanatory text fields are included for locational and rank data (WMANAME, WRNAME, VALUES) Estimated drought recharge values are placed in the DGWR and DINCH items. They were calculated using climatological data from the drought of record, 1961 - 1966.
