The Coastal Zone Management (CZM) rules at N.J.A.C. 7:7-13.5 "Determining if a site is forested or unforested" and the Flood Hazard Control Act Rules at N.J.A.C. 7:13-4.2, set forth two methods for determining if a site or portion of a site is forested. Please see these rules for more information.

The grid system referenced in these rules were developed by the New Jersey Forestry Service (NJFS) which created a statewide GIS one-half acre grid. The grid is a GIS file used with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or any other compatible program. The grid divides the State into one-half acre (0.5 ac/21,780 square feet) square cells based on the USGS 7.5 Quadrangle series.

The grid is only available on a DVD due to its large size. NJFS provides the DVD, free of charge, upon request. To make that request, please contact the NJFS at (609) 292-2532.
