STATEMENT OF DEP ACTING COMMISSIONER BOB MARTIN ON U.S. SECRETARY OF INTERIOR’S WIND ENERGY SUMMIT

(10/P9) TRENTON - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today convened a summit with governors and representatives of Atlantic Coast states to explore a regional approach to wind energy development on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf.

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Acting Commissioner Bob Martin, who attended on behalf of Governor Chris Christie, said: "We are eager to move forward quickly to make this clean-energy source a reality for New Jersey while making sure our natural resources are protected.

"I'm pleased that the federal government expressed optimism about creating a regulatory framework to help speed the permitting process for these wind projects. What's particularly exciting is that this regional, coordinated effort throws open New Jersey's door of economic-development opportunity to attract the manufacturers of the components for wind turbines that will harness the power of nature."
