Lower Passaic River And Tributaries Grant Summary (2016)

Grant Program Highlights:

  • $10,000,000 available for wetland enhancement and/or creation, including public access to open space and the waterfront.
  • No match requirement; maximum grant award of $3,000,000
  • Projects began construction in 2017 and are still in progress.

Approved Projects:

  1. Town of Harrison – The project includes the development of a new waterfront park on Cape May Street.  The completed park will include a riverfront path and esplanade with overlook and fitness stations, a dog park, rain gardens creating new wetland meadows, and a playground. Total Cost $6,807,000, Grant Award $3,000,000.

  2. Bloomfield Township –The project includes wetland restoration, stream corridor enhancement, and the development of a municipal park on the site of an urbanized, flood-prone brownfield.  The ONRR grant funds were used for the restoration of 2 acres of wetlands on the site. Total Cost $16,475,746, Requested Funds $3,000,000.
