Radon Action Partnership Awards

Awards were presented to those municipalities and health departments having outstanding radon outreach programs as evidenced during National Radon Action Month-2008 as well as throughout the year.

The awards presentation was conducted during the New Jersey Health Officers Association's annual meeting held on November 19, 2008 in Atlantic City during the League of Municipalities Conference. The awards were presented by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection representative, Dr. Jill Lipoti, Director of Environmental Health and Safety. Recipients were recognized as true "radon leaders saving lives". Their efforts were instrumental to our mission of promoting radon awareness about the health hazards associated with radon exposure and to encourage radon testing throughout the State. As a result, last year over 58,000 radon tests were conducted and 2900 homes were mitigated in New Jersey. Their enthusiasm, leadership and innovation were evident in the numerous activities and events that were conducted. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, New Jersey was ranked second in the nation for radon events and activities conducted.

Radon Action Partnership Award recipients and representatives who accepted the awards were as follows:

Bergen County Department of Health Services: Al Lukin-Deputy Director
Township of Galloway: Mayor Tom Bassford
Lawrence Township Health Department: Carol Chamberlain-Health Officer
