FIREWISE in the Pines

This is a formal presentation focusing on the interface between urban/suburban development and open space. The purpose of the program is to emphasize how municipalities, businesses, schools, families and individuals can build and maintain a building, facilities or home in a forested area, keeping the natural beauty while reducing the potential impacts that a forest fire would have on the structure(s) and surrounding property.

  • Participants learn how wildfire affects not only those directly in its path, but also those impacted as a result of higher insurance costs, taxes, loss of public watershed and other natural resources.

  • Participants learn about concrete methods used to protect property and facilities from fire.

  • Information is shared regarding the impacts of fire-damaged areas, loss of public land, and loss of private homes, property and facilities.

Target Audience(s)
Municipal officials, citizen groups, community organizations, faculty, college students and secondary students
