The North American Association of Environmental Education
The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) is a network of professionals and students working in the field of environmental education throughout North America and in over 50 countries around the world.
Acknowledgement of NAAEE is included in SEEDS for a variety of reasons. First, many employees in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) are members of the association. Secondly, the leadership and work of the association often guide and shape DEP's environmental education efforts and the association has been a formal partner with the department on some projects. Finally, the Alliance for New Jersey Environmental Education is the state's official affiliate organization with NAAEE, with whom DEP closely works.
In 1993 NAAEE initiated the National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education, in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation, and others. Products of this project include guidelines for environmental education materials, environmental education learner guidelines, and recommendations for preparing and training environmental education professionals. For more than 25 years, NAAEE has worked to improve and promote the field of environmental education.
NAAEE membership benefits include an annual conference; membership publication; environmental education publications; NAAEE skills bank; regional symposia and access to a variety of specialized initiatives.
