Special Coverage Option for Young Adults Under 31 Years Old

Don’t forget! Most young adults may remain on a parent's policy until age 26 as a dependent under Federal law. In addition, New Jersey law (P.L. 2005, c. 375, sometimes called “Chapter 375” or “DU31”) permits many young adults not otherwise qualifying as a dependent under a parent’s employer’s group health benefits plan to be covered as an “over-age” dependent until his or her 31st birthday, if certain eligibility standards are met.  It makes sense to compare all of your options.

More information about coverage options for young adults, and DU31 Continuation in particular is available, or call the Department of Banking and Insurance at 609-292-7272.

If your parent is covered through the State Health Benefits Plan, refer to the Department of Treasury’s Pension & Benefits web pages.

Individual Dental Coverage

Listed below are the carriers approved to offer dental coverage to individuals in New Jersey, shown in two groups: those that offer Stand-alone Dental Plans (SADPs), and those that do not offer SADPs.

Stand-alone Dental Plans (SADPs)

The following carriers have agreed and been certified to offer individual SADPs in 2019. SADPs include a pediatric dental benefit required by the federal Affordable Care Act, and some may include coverage for adults, too. Some SADPs can be purchased on and off the Marketplace (www.healthcare.gov), and some are available only off the Marketplace. These carriers may offer additional dental plans to individuals off the Marketplace. You can contact the carrier for more information.
