The Pocket License

Physical Description

The real estate license for individuals and the real estate pocket card have been combined. The license now also serves as the pocket card. These new individual licenses have been reduced in size (4.36" x 2.73") to accomodate display on a digital device. If you decide to print your license, it may be printed on paper of any color or quality yet must be legible.

Display of License Requirements

All licensed individuals (*) must carry in their possession either the digital image (on a cell phone, tablet, laptop, or other electronic device) OR the printed pocket card license whenever transacting business (**). In either case, the pocket card license must be legible. Regardless of which option is chosen, the individual licensee must be able to produce the physical or electronic image of their pocket card license upon request.

* The term "licensed individuals" refers to all NJ actively licensed Brokers of Record (Employing Brokers included), Brokersalespersons, Salespersons and Referral Agents.

** Pursuant to N.J.S.A.45:15-14, all licensees must have their pocket card license in their possession at all times when engaged in the business of a real estate broker, brokersalesperson, salesperson or referral agent.

Generating the Pocket License

Brokers of Record, Brokersalespersons, Salespersons, Referral Agents:
To generate your pocket license, you must first login to NJDOBI Online Licensing Services (OLS) using the link at the bottom of this page. Once logged in, your OLS Main Menu contains a link regarding generating your license. Click the "Email My Individual License" menu item. You will be instructed on how to view, save, print, or email your license. Please note that the license can only be emailed to an email address filed with NJDOBI OLS (the ability of filing an email with NJDOBI OLS is also available through your OLS Main Menu).

As noted above, the individual license is now also the pocket card. You have two options:

    1. Carry a physical copy of your pocket card license
     
    2. Have a digital image of your pocket card license in your possession (cell phone, tablet, laptop, or other electronic device)
     
    Regardless which option you choose, you must have either the paper or digital pocket card license in your possession at all times when engaged in the business of a real estate broker, broker-salesperson, salesperson or referral agent and must be able to produce the physical or electronic image of your pocket card license upon request.
