AbdulSaleem Hasan

Assistant Commissioner - Field Services

AbdulSaleem Hasan is Assistant Commissioner of Field Services for the New Jersey Department of Education. In this role, he oversees the County Offices of Education to support their work with the local districts’ understanding and compliance with DOE rules and regulations.  He is also responsible for several offices under his division, including: Field Services Coordination; Fiscal Accountability & Compliance; Comprehensive Support; Professional Learning Network; District Intervention & Support; and the Amistad Commission.

Previous to joining DOE, Mr. Hasan worked in the East Orange School District for 11 years, serving as an administrator at John L. Costley Middle School and East Orange Campus High School.  In 2013, he became the Vice Principal of Woodbridge High School and established a Junior ROTC Program, created a Partnership with University Medical & Dentistry School of New Jersey (UMDNJ), served as an Educational delegate in China, and established educational partnerships with a plethora of organizations throughout the state. He then served as principal of East Orange Campus High School.

Mr. Hasan earned the rank of Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army, having been deployed in Operation Just Cause (Panama), Operation Desert Shield and Storm (Kuwait/Iraq), and Operation Enduring Freedom (Iraq). He is also a retired police detective who served in both East Orange and Woodbridge, New Jersey for over 20 years. During that time, he served as a lead mentor and drill sergeant for the Police Explorers and the Partnership for Youth Programs. 

Mr. Hasan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Justice from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, a Master of Arts Degree in Human Resource Management and Training Development from Seton Hall University, and an Educational Specialist Degree from Seton Hall University. He is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education Program at Seton Hall University, pending completion of dissertation.
