High quality early education improves a child’s healthy development and learning outcomes both of which ensure long-term benefits for children in school and life. A high quality preschool program is a very important part of educating young children. After more than three decades, New Jersey continues to lead the nation in providing exemplary programs and services to our 4-5 year old children in high needs areas of the state.
Governor Phil Murphy has prioritized an expansion of high quality preschool opportunities for many more children. The New Jersey Department of Education is pleased to announce another opportunity for preschool expansion funds. A Notice of Funding Opportunity is available for school districts that fall into two categories: those who currently receive ECPA* or ELLI** funding and districts with no prior funding who have a Free and Reduced Price Lunch (FRL) percentage of 20% or higher. The application below is available from July 1, 2019 through July 31, 2019. Completed applications are due no later than August 1, 2019. The NJDOE PEA 2019-20 Budget Workbook should provide information on implementation activities and related costs for the 2019-2020 school year. See the application for details.
