Built in 1938 with funding from the Public Works Administration, the New Hanover Township School currently serves the residents of Wrightstown and Cookstown as a vibrant, growing community of diverse learners spanning grades PK through 8. Being a small school, we provide our students with individualized, highly differentiated instruction tailored to meet an array learning styles. This year, our mantra is “Achievement First.” As professionals, we have committed ourselves to ensuring that personal and organizational decisions support that goal.
In practice, we focus our efforts on curriculum design, instructional methods, assessment, and remediation. In recent years, the District has committed to improving student achievement by approving new curricula in multiple content areas, providing professional development for staff, utilizing multiple assessments, providing students and staff with new technologies, and developing new instructional programs. As a result, our students have grown by all quantitative and qualitative measures.

The New Hanover Township School District maintains an emotionally healthy environment where students are free to explore learning and challenge themselves to achieve. Our classrooms are joyful areas that promote and facilitate academic, social, and emotional growth. Students can participate in sports and activities including basketball, soccer, Junior Beta, and Student Council. Additionally, the District promotes school/community connection by serving on the Wrightstown/New Hanover Municipal Alliance. This consortium of devoted agencies provides students additional learning opportunities beyond the school day. We invite families and community members to participate in their child’s education through open dialogue, conferences and meetings, and membership in our thriving Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

At New Hanover, we have set a laser focus on student achievement. Our dedicated staff and world-class student body maintain high expectations for excellence as we stay connected to our motivational center-point: “Achievement First.” For additional information regarding the New Hanover Township School District, please visit our website at
