Weehawken High School

Weehawken High School is a fully accredited charter member of the Middle States Association and offers a wide range of academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs. In 2015, U.S. News & World Report ranked WHS in the top 6% in the nation and 55th in the state on their annual list of America's Best High Schools, which recognizes distinguished schools that meet their demanding criteria based on standardized test performance, proficiency rates and challenging college-ready curriculum.

Students may enroll in such rigorous Advanced Placement courses as Calculus, English Literature, English Language, Spanish, American History, Macroeconomics, Statistics, French and Biology. In partnership with St. Peter's University, Weehawken High School also offers two popular college-level program-for-credit courses: Poetry and Drama Honors, and Perspectives on Sociology Honors. The Princeton Review course is also offered gratis to all juniors in the spring. This is accomplished within the framework of three academies: Masters--for those aspiring to attend the most competitive universities; Collegiate--for those planning to attend college; and Career-- for those interested in furthering their education in career, business, or technical areas. Students who are interested in unique or specialized areas of instruction can take online courses through Virtual High School. Our new STEAM learning center and ART Studio offer students the ability to create through creativity and technology while enhancing our already rigorous curriculum.

The school plant has undergone extensive renovations and technology updates. Our dining hall, complete with skylights and an entrance to a courtyard, gives students an area of comfort during breakfast and lunch. The technology program provides three state-of-the-art computer labs and a media center to access technology and study, as well as computers in every classroom. Seventy-seven percent of classrooms have SmartBoards while the Culinary Arts Center has walk-in freezers, high-tech ovens, and fully outfitted restaurant quality work areas.

Extracurricular activities, clubs and sports help students pursue a wide range of interests outside the classroom. In recent years, the Marching Band, Math League and Academic Team have enjoyed unprecedented success. A new Theater Arts program is alive in the high school providing students an education in playwriting, acting and backstage work to create both dramatic and musical theater performances. Organizations like Student Council, National Honor Society, and Peer Leadership provide a variety of services to the school community as well as to the community at large. Students and faculty produce award-winning yearbooks and newspapers each year. Weehawken High School now offers cross-country track, tennis and track and field, along with competitive sports programs for every season.

Weehawken High School provides the best of both worlds--a "private school" atmosphere inside a public institution. With small class size, close relationships between teachers and students, and a challenging curriculum, Weehawken is set to prepare every student for the challenges of the twenty-first century.
