BOONTON TWP (27-0460)

The mission of the Boonton Township School District is to provide a solid educational foundation coupled with a positive social and emotional experience for all students. The Boonton Township School District has one school, Rockaway Valley School, which houses a PreK through Grade 8 program for approximately 450 children. The district maintains a send-receive relationship with the neighboring Mountain Lakes School District, whereby our students attend Mountain Lakes High School.

Rockaway Valley School has a proud tradition of excellence that is exemplified by superlative student performance. The district strives to provide a high level of individualized support to each student. We have a full day kindergarten program and our class sizes range from 15-25 students. Our K-4 classrooms are self-contained and our departmentalized middle school program begins in Grade 5.

The district provides a challenging and comprehensive K-8 curriculum with courses of study in language arts literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, visual and performing arts, computer sciences, health and physical education. Opportunities for enrichment are available to gifted and talented students at every level and our educationally disabled students have inclusive opportunities and a wide range of educational support programs.

The Boonton Township School District provides its students with a wealth of extracurricular programs. The middle school features 10 boys' and girls' athletic teams spanning 5 sports, which have earned titles in several county competitions. In addition to our sports program, the district offers many after-school clubs and activities, including a ski club. Students may participate in band and chorus and travel annually to be adjudicated professionally. The District provides drama experiences to our students and conducts an ambitious art show each spring.

A major hallmark of the Boonton Township School District is the very close working relationship the school has with the parent community. Both the Home and School Association (HSA) and the Boonton Township Educational Foundation (BTEF) are major partners in the operational life of the Rockaway Valley School. The HSA sponsors the Rockaway Valley School lunch program and provides catered lunches with parents staffing the serving line on a daily basis. The BTEF, besides providing grant funds for the staff, funds a portion of the annual spring musical. In addition there is a very active parent volunteer group to assist staff when needed.
